Everybody in Blazers

Am I trying to hitch hike in my kitchen?

blazer: banana republic
top: anthropologie
leather skirt: goodwill
boots: lucky brand
tights: target
purse: banana republic

events: classroom observations, teaching night class, errands in between

The wonderful team over at Everybody, Everywear had the idea to let bloggers share the ways they style basic pieces.  The concept is that most everyone has certain basic pieces like a striped shirt or gingham shirt, but it's how one styles them that makes them distinctive.

This week everyone is in the classic blazer.

I live my life with the devotion to the belief that a blazer makes anything work appropriate.  And I pretty much rely on the workhorse blazer to help me out when I'm not quite sure if my outfit is "worky" enough.  Let's be clear, I don't work in an office (never really have), and have only worked in places with relaxed or no dress codes.  One of my jobs is as a Reading Specialist/literacy coach through a grant (which I will do a separate post on later---I haven't forgotten your request, Kfrouts!) and I pretty much call the shots, so I can get away with wearing whatever I want.  My other job is teaching a graduate class on children's literature, and I need to be a little more professional.  But then again, I'm just an adjunct so...eh...

I wanted to look somewhat professional today but I also wanted to wear this leather skirt (Goodwill find!), and nothing de-rocker's a leather skirt like a tweedy jacket.  Is she a rebel or a nerd?  Only her Amazon account knows for sure (confirmed: nerd).

And I don't know why I decided to carry my handbag for these pictures.  It weighs a ton but I love it.  A girlfriend of mine got it for me with her employee discount last summer.  Ca-ching!

How do you feel about the classic blazer?
